Did you know? By Fr Chris

Great Lent is a time of preparation! The season of Great Lent is the time of prep- aration for the feast of the Resurrection of Christ, It is the microcosm of our entire life which is to be fulfilled in our resurrection from the dead with Christ. It is a time of re- newed worship: of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is a time of repentance, a real re- newal of our minds, hearts and deeds as taught to us by Christ Himself. It is the time, most of all, for us to return to the great commandments of loving God and our neighbors and most of all for us to be our most authentic selves.

One way for us to accomplish this is by making an effort to be present at the many services during Great Lent. At Saint George we have the opportunity to attend the Compline service at 6:00pm every Monday. The Compline service is penitential service which allows to focus on repentance and helps to plant the beautiful seed of humility within us.

We have the blessing of the Pre-Sanctified Liturgy every Wednesday at 6:00pm. This service allows us the blessing to receive Holy Communion more frequent- ly during the Lenten journey.

Finally, we turn to our mother, the Theotokos every Friday at 7:00 during Great Lent. The service of the Salutations, is a powerful and beautiful service dedicated to Panagia, the Mother of God and we ask her to intercede for us.

If you have ever wondered how to experience Great Lent in a more powerful way, join us at the Lenten services and you may be surprised!
